Fire-rated doors
Fire-rated doors play a crucial role in preventive fire protection. Their primary function is to block openings in the event of a fire, preventing its further spread and thereby reducing risks to human life.

In high-traffic public buildings, educational and healthcare institutions, sports and industrial facilities, shopping malls, office buildings, condominiums, hotels, and also the private sector, doors and windows are often required to fulfill specific protective functions. It is not always feasible or possible to construct these doors from steel, as they must also align with the intended interior design and aesthetic.
Fire-rated doors are self-closing structures that, in the event of fire, delay its spread to other parts of the building and, in particular, protect escape and rescue routes from flames.
Main requirements for fire-rated doors:
- MSZ EN 16034:2015 product standard for fire-rated doors and windows
- self-closing within max. 60 seconds
- able to release from open position
- fire resistance limit (test: MSZ EN 1634-1:2014+A1:2018, classification: MSZ EN 13501-2:2023) - in minutes
- fire protection class (classification according to MSZ EN 13501-1:2019) from "A1” to "F” ( non-combustible to highly flammable)
- resistance to wear (durability)
- resistance to aging
Westag fire-rated doors have a fire resistance limit of 30 / 60 minutes and are NMÉ (National Technical Assessment = NTA) approved in Hungary.
